Oasis Bags featured in 'The Future of Business'

A couple of months ago, a representative from Nelson Publishing approached Oasis Bags to be included in their next edition of ‘The Future of Business’. We were so happy when a copy of the textbook arrived last week!

The Future of Business copy

‘The Future of Business’ is used in university business classes across Canada. In addition to the great write up, we love the ‘Thinking Critically’ questions attached to the article. It is so exciting that students will be learning about the company we grew as a successful business model.

{Gifts We Love} Seed Bombs

Seed bombs take the tedious work out of gardening- toss them wherever you want to garden (without even digging a hole!) and they will grow. Available in five different “themes” including dog & cat friendly seeds that grow catnip, wheat, oats and rye. Perfect hostess gift or stocking stuffer for just $6.00 each from Anthropologie.

Oasis Bags featured in Profit Magazine and Canadian Business

We are so excited to be featured in the November issue of Profit Magazine and last week’s Canadian Business issue. Being a small business has its challenges but we are so proud of where we are today. Thank you to Bruce McDougall for writing up the article and to both publications for including us in their small business round-up. It is truly an honour!

Ovations Vaudreuil-Soulanges

We recently attended a cocktail party to officially announce the 51 finalists (including us!) nominated for the Ovations Vaudreuil-Soulanges awards. It was great to meet our fellow nominees and Ovations staff. Check out this video clip covering the event. Finalists will be announced at a gala on November 14th.

San Francisco Bag Ban Amendment

Earlier this month, Superior Court Judge Teri Jackson upheld a “San Francisco ordinance that would ban most retail locations in the city from distributing plastic bags and begin charging customers a dime for each paper bag (or comparatively more expensive compostable plastic bag) they use.” This ban comes into effect October 1, 2012. The new ordinance extends the previous law created in 2007 banning all non compostable plastic bags in San Francisco supermarkets and pharmacies. “The ruling came as a result of a lawsuit by the Save The Plastic Bag Coalition, which argued the city didn’t undertake a thorough report on the impact of the rule before it was passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and signed by Mayor Ed Lee earlier this year.” We applaud the city of San Francisco for taking a stance against disposable bags.
“[Plastic bags] are one of the most common forms of waste found on beaches, and they can have dire consequences for marine life, killing or injuring hundreds of turtles, whales, birds, fish and other marine life every year. Over the last 25 years of the International Coastal Cleanup, 7,825,319 plastic bags have been collected from beaches around the world.” -Leila Monre, an ocean conservation attorney at the Natural Resources Defense Council

We are Finalists!

We are excited to announce that we are finalists for the Ovations Awards! The award ceremony will be held November 14th and we are nominated in two categories: product and services; overall best company of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. Thank you to Ovations for nominating us and to our staff for their continual hard work and dedication to Oasis Bags.

{Friday Favourite} Book Planters

We stumbled across this great DIY on Pinterest and loved the different variations we found. A great way to repurpose old books, even if it’s just for the season! Book planters can be used for wedding centerpieces. Check out Green Wedding Shoes for full DIY instructions. For a more low maintenance version, inhabitat’s DIY uses stones and succulents that do not require much attention. If you want a more natural organic look, papernstitch’s DIY features longer fern plants and flowers. Happy Planting!

{Friday Favourite} McDonald's Designer-Made Coffee Cups

McDonald’s France commissioned Paris-based industrial designerPatrick Norguet to design a set of reusable cups for its new range of premium roasted coffee. The cups are each made of ceramic and feature a band in six different colors—that not only makes it easier to grip, but also protects users’ hands from the hot beverage. The fast-food giant hopes to give these away for free when customers try out their new roasted coffee.
